Kenmore wall oven door hang problem

Hi folks,

I am trying to hang the door on a new Kenmore model 4883 wall oven. The hinges are in the closed position. I can move the hinges by grasping with pliers, but when I release the hinge it snaps back to closed position and I cannot hang the door. How can I lock the hinges in open position until I can mount the door on the receive slots?

A model number may help others help you.

Often there are holes that line up when the hinge is open.
You then put a bolt etc. through the holes to hold it open.

Others have a small latch that you flip to hold it open.

Denman,

Thanks for your early reply. The model is Kenmore 4883, wall oven.

The hinge pins have u channel latches, but those seem immovable in the present configuration. If there is a hole for a pin, it is blocked by the u channel latch.

I will try again to move the hinge to an open position and move the latch to hold it open, but I may need more hands to do both at the same time.

I appreciated your follow up.

Your model number is short a lot of digits.
Kenmore/Sears numbers are usually 3 digits, a period and the 6 to 8 more digits.

Denman, and others here,

The oven door is installed and my problem is fixed. A lot of force was necessary to pull the hinges open and as much or more to rotate the latches from the back position that they had been forced by the torsion spring. But open they did and were pinned and the door seated properly .

Thanks Denman,

and others here. Very helpful website and community.
