the compactor will not pack unless the normal/pack switch is in the pack mode. When you turn the start button, it packs and the ram stays down. Then, you have to turn the start button again to make the ram come up. The normal/pack button does not bring the ram up. I think there is a short in the normal/pack button

Do I need the on/off switch, the directional switch, the motor switch or the switch rocker???

Most likely the problem is a bad cycling (normal/pack) switch. It comes with the installation instructions.
