Kenmore spray arm wont spin

I have a kenmore that was installed new when we bought the house 7 yrs ago.
During the fill cycle water comes in through the spray arm but when it goes to the wash and rinse cycle there is not enough pressure to spin the arm.
Is water supposed to come in somewhere else as well or do I have a pump problem

by the way the motor runs fine, house was built in 1961 and has galvanized pipe
is there a screen somewhere?

Thanks for the help

Hi bh77521

Water comes into the dishwasher not through the spray arm.
It comes through the water inlet valve out of the hole on the left side of the tub.
The lack of the pressure could be if it is not enough water came into the dishwasher during the fill up time.
Add a 1/2 of gallon of water manually and see how the spray arm spins. If it spins better then the next step is to check the water shut off valve under the sink. Is it open all the way or not?
If it’s fine then the problem is the water inlet valve. It could be blocked with hard water deposits or it’s not opening all the way. In both cases it has to be replaced.

Good luck.

Start your dishwasher in fill mode and count the seconds for fill by listening to the water flow. If it fills for more then 40 seconds, but the tub is not filled to near the heater, you have a partially blocked screen in water valve, or low water pressure to it or just a bad valve. If it fills for much less than 40 seconds, you have a bad timer.
