Kenmore Elite, Mod 106.1770
Refrigerator alarm beeps nearly all the time. The controls on the front freezer door are inoperable----PF shows in the display, but reset button will not reset the PF display. Lock button also is inoperable.
Am I missing a trick to resetting this, and ending the beeping, or has the control board gone bad?
Control board is in the back near the bottom, correct?

A “PF” code could indicate a damaged main control board. But we would need the complete model number(10 digits) to assist you properly.

As best I am able to determine, your prolem would be in the control board, unless you have a low voltage problem to the refrigerator.
This control board assembly is common to all versions of the particular fridge and should work for your unit.
It’s located in the control panel of the refrigerator section, here are some basic instructions,
1.

Well Joe, it was a good try, but after installing the new control board, there is no change whatsoever in the condition. Refrigerator and freezer work fine, but the danged thing just randomly beeps. The beeps of course come from the area of the water dispenser.
What might I try next?
Joe, the new control board was installed today and nothing has changed in the condition of the refrigerator or freezer. They both work fine, but the beep continues. The beep comes from the water dispenser area.

First,
Check the wire harness at the hinge assemblt, make sure we don’t have any loose connections or discoloration on the inside of the connector.
If all checks are OK, it’ll be time for the dispenser control board,
This ought to help get you to the dispenser control board.
[LEFT]1. Disconnect the unit from the electrical supply.
2. Pull out and unclip the drip tray on the ice and water dispenser compartment.
[FONT=ArialMT]3. Remove the screws from the ice and water dispenser compartment front panel and turn it over. The selector switch pack and dispenser switches are now accessible for testing.[/LEFT]

Okay Joe, we are now on the track of the errant beeper. Just for some immediate relief, we removed the dispenser face plate, got at the control board area and removed the short harness that contains the dispenser led’s and the beeper. It is now in the drawer for safe keeping.
We reassembled everything but the the harness to the beeper from the control board and the harness to the control board.
Reassembled.
Now nothing lights on the dispenser panel and no beeping. This of course disables the dispenser (we never commissioned it from the git go) and so now we can sleep at night.
Next step is to rebuild the whole thing with a new control board, the number of which you gave me in the note above.
