Brand: Kenmore Model Number: 106.51129 210 Main Symptom: Intermittent Refrigerator and Freezer Lights Intermittent What happens & when: Dear Appliance Parts Pros Tech Support,
We own a Kenmore Model 106.51129 210 refrigerator S.N.#HR41914400 purchased in 2014. We replaced the overhead LED Lamp Assembly, Part # WPW10515058 in the refrigerator 2 years ago. The issue we are experiencing is both the refrigerator and freezer LED lamps are intermittent and go out approximately every 10th opening of either door.
Then, after 10 more openings and closings, the lights magically come back on for another ten openings and closings. When the LED lamps go out, you can see the refrigerators 4 led lights blinking at a very low level and the freezer led lamp blinking two led lights low level even though the freezer led lamp assembly also has 4 led’s.
My question to you, in your vast experience do you think that the trouble lies within the Freezer LED Lamp Assembly or the door switches?
I opened up the Refrigerator door switch ceiling assembly via the two screws and the switch and wires appear to be snug and intact. Wiggling the assembly did not help with the problem. Unfortunately the freezer ceiling door switch does not appear to have compartment access for there are no screws unless perhaps you have to squeeze or pry the small switch to remove it.
Thank you in advance for your kind reply,
David

To answer your question regarding the light issue, I would suspect a problem with the LED module that converts AC power to DC power.
That said, I was unable to locate a parts diagram for your exact model that showed any control boards. The only electrical component identified was the defrost timer. I was able to find service manuals for several similar models, though not for your specific unit. I have attached those manuals for reference, as they may still provide useful troubleshooting information.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I can be of further assistance.
At your advice, we replaced the led assembly lamp in the freezer. Both the refrigerator and freezer lights worked better for a couple days, but still intermittently go out for about a dozen door openings and closings, just like before the freezer part replacement.
When opening the refrigerator door, we notice the lights go out after being on for a dozen or so openings and closings. Does this imply that the door switch in the refrigerator may be the culprit?
Please advise as to the next logical step in bringing this intermittent lighting system back to functional status.
Since both the refrigerator and freezer lights are acting up at the same time, I don’t believe the individual LED modules are the root cause.
Each LED light module on this model has its own inverter board, so it would be very unusual for both modules to fail intermittently at the same time. That points much more toward a problem with the shared power supply to the lights.
The two most likely causes are:
Door switch issue (most likely) – A worn or intermittent refrigerator door switch can momentarily interrupt power to both light circuits. Test the switch by manually pressing and releasing it several times while watching the lights. If they flicker or fail to respond consistently, replace the switch.
Wiring issue – Inspect the wiring harness between the cabinet and the door, especially near the top door hinge where the wires flex every time the door is opened and closed. Look for broken, pinched, or partially severed wires, loose connectors, or signs of corrosion.
If the door switch and wiring both check out, the next step would be to trace the voltage feeding the light circuit to determine where the power is being interrupted, but based on the symptoms I would start with the door switch and wiring before replacing any additional LED modules.
