This range is the black version 790.96599601, with the bridge unit on the left, a warming burner at the center back, and two burners on the right.
In September 2012 I was convection baking at 400 degrees. When I attempted to change the temp to convection bake at 350 degrees, I immediately heard a crackling noise and saw a whisp of smoke rise from the back of the unit directly above the clock. I pressed “stop” and then heard a loud pop and smelled burning wires or some other kind of electrical odor. The unit worked normally until just a few days ago. I wanted to provide this background information in case the two events are related.
Recently, I was baking some Italian sausages at 350 degrees on a wire rack over a baking pan in the top third of the oven. I checked them and they were still whitish and baking slowly, so I went into the next room to work on the computer. Moments later, I heard sizzling and returned to the kitchen where I saw smoke coming out of the vent over the range top and an F10-ERR code. I opened the oven door to see blackend sausages and the top coil red hot. I pressed “stop” and removed the pan.
I rotated the sausages and put the pan back into the oven to try again at 350 degrees. Again, they blackened quickly, the F10-ERR code reappeared, and the upper coil was red hot. I pressed stop and also turned off the circuit breaker to the range as I do not wish it to burn my house down. I haven’t used it since.
Do you have any ideas as to what might be the problem and what parts might be needed to fix it? We have the parts lists and exploded diagrams for this unit. My aircraft mechanic/auto mechanic/handyman husband has repaired my washer, dryer and dishwasher many times. He leaves refrigerators to the pros and may have to do the same for this, depending on your answer.
Thanks!!
