Kenmore Oven Overheating

I have an electric standalone range/oven that is overheating. It still works, and so do the heating elements on the top, but when you put the oven on it just heats up and keeps heating up. It’s doesn’t have the ability to auto regulate the heating elements. Based on this I’m thinking that either the thermostat (that long metal thing) is broken or the little black control box behind the oven knob is not correctly interpreting the signal anymore.

Can anyone help me out with diagnosing for sure and then with where to find the part? I have looked on several site including this one but can’t find a replacement of either of the parts that I suspect may be broken.

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Remove the thermostat knob and check if it’s not broken inside.

If it’s not then the oven thermostat is bad and has to be replaced.

  • The part number for the oven thermostat is AP2023455

If the knob is broken then this part is no linger available.

Gene.

Hey Gene,

what do you mean by broken inside when you’re saying to take the knob off? Do you mean to take the whole front panel off and take the little box behind the oven knob apart? Or simply just take the knob off the front and look inside?

The knob seems to work, it just heats up way too much.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

This is what we call “knob”:

If this part is not broken then the thermostat has to be replaced.
