Please Help, Yesterday while using oven on bake (350 degrees) - after about four hours of cooking the broiler came on (500) and would not turn off even after pushing cancel/clear. I had to unplug the oven. I plugged oven back in after 5 minutes and broiler came back on without turning on controls. I pushed cancel several times, and got no response. unplugged again and let oven cool for 30 minutes and this resolved the problem. Oven now works properly. I am concerned about this happening again.
I have had the same thing happen about once a year for 4 or 5 years now. Someplace on the Net, that I cannot find again now, I came across a temporary fix that has worked for me.
Unplug the oven or turn off the circuit breaker and let it cool overnight.
When you plug it back in again, the broiler will turn on. That’s the problem.
Turn on the CLEAN cycle and give it just a minute or two to warm up.
Then pull the plug or switch the circuit breaker.
Give it a little while to cool down again and then plug it back in.
At this point, with luck, you’ve gotten the relay to reset and the broiler won’t come back on — until the next time it overheats due to lots of broiling or baking.
At least, that’s how it worked for me yesterday. Your mileage may vary. This is not a permanent fix and I’m not a pro.
