I am at the mercy of my washing machine once again. It is only 2 years old. It is showing a F-54. It gets water to it. It will drain. It tries to spin and gives the F54 code. The tub spins fine when we open it. There was black “stuff” under it when I moved it.
Any Ideas? 
i am pretty sure there was an upgrade kit to fix that. The kit contained the main board and harness . You might contact Whirlpool/Sears and see .
Yesterday, my husband begin running some of the test from the service manual. He was checking the motor, strator?, and something else. There was no indications that the computer board was defective.
The machine is fried!!!
Class action lawsuit, I think.
PLease let me know if anyone is taking part in it(if there is one).
