Kenmore Ice Maker overflowing with water

Recently I woke up to an indoor swimming pool - in my kitchen! The ice maker was overflowing with water, which subsequently leaked out all over the floor for several hours.

Mechanically, it seems to be working OK. It goes through the ice making cycle fine, it’s just that the water flow doesn’t stop when it fills. I’ve been looking at the diagram and parts list on ********************************, and there are several valve kits, but I have no idea which one I’d need, or if I even need one. Any ideas? I’d post the link to the ice maker parts, but I keep getting a script error. Thanks!

Might it be the inlet valve?

Hello.

You are right - it’s got to be the inlet valve. The diaphragm inside the valve sticks and bypassing the water.

Thank you. Post the results.

That is indeed what it was. We have ice! The valve above didn’t quite match the original; the water outlet connection was a quick-connect, while the original was a compression nut. I was a little skeptical about the quick-connect’s ability to seal, but it’s been about 12 hours and no leaks.

Thanks a bunch!

I’m glad you fixed it.

Don’t worry about the quick connect’s, as long as you pushed the tube in all the way - it’s OK.

Thank you.

Simon.
