kenmore Elite

Kenmore Elite model 106 54602300 just stopped getting cold. Lost all the meat in the frezzer and the fridge side is only cool. Panel shows the unit to be working and cpmpressor appears to working. Could starter relay be bad or what? Happened all of a sudden.

How hot is the compressor on touch?

Did you clean the condenser coils?

Do the both fans (next to the compressor and inside the freezer) work?

Remove the rear panel inside the freezer and check how the evaporator coils are covered with frost.

Thanks, I will give it a shot.

Panel is off and fan is running but there is no frost on coils. I checked the lower grill, on the bottom, it had some lint but not too much. Compressor appears to not be working, could it be a start up relay?

Did you check the fan next to the compressor?

Gene.

No, is that on the back side of the fridge? Somewhat mechanically inclined but this is my first problem with a refrigerator.

Yes, it is on the back. How did you determine that the compressor is not working without seeing it?

Gene.

Probably shouldn’t assume, for obvious reasons, but thought it would be the compressor or maybe the start relay. It was working well and just quit all of a sudden. Is this something I can tackle myself or should I bring in an expert?

Any ideas on what to do next
?

Did you check the fan motor on the back and the compressor?

Yes, compressor is warm/mildly hot to the touch and the fan is not working.

Does the compressor vibrate?

If it does not, can you hear a clicking sound from the compressor once in a few minutes?

Manually rotate the fan blade. Would it start?

Gene.

The compressor is warm but does not vibrate or click that I can tell. The fan will spin by hand but stops and will not turn on its own.

You may want to replace the condenser fan motor and the compressor start device.

  • The condenser fan motor [PART]AP3778594[/PART]

  • The start device [PART]AP3962960[/PART]

Is the condensor fan motor on the bottom back side? The fan inside the freezer was working. Where would be a good place to order these parts, and thanks for your help.

Yes, this is the fan motor next to the compressor. You can order the parts from AppliancePartsPros.com by clicking on the part numbers or pictures.

Thanks for the quick reply and link for ordering parts. I ordered the fan motor and starter relay and rec eived them fast. The fan motor I recieved is not correct. My original fan motor part number is Panasonic UDQR003WB and has totally different mounting holes, a larger shaft with a screw on shaft point to install the fan blade. The fan motor I recieved is Panasonic part number UDQR107W3. I have attached a photo of both fan motors. How do I return the incorrect part and get the correct one?

Hi. I believe we have run into this before. There was a up date change of the condensor motor in which you will need to also order the mount bracket [part]AP3695732[/part]. It will be available by Jan. 12th. If you can align one bolt through the screw hole in the origional mount and tie- wrap the other side to the mount momentarily to correct the cooling issue until you get the correct mount. Sorry about the inconvenience. Thank You.

Hi Sir. Please disregard my last reply. We have located a much better solution to this issue. There is a complete fan and bracket assy. [part]AP4330510[/part] availiable to use. Just a note to make sure that you pull the condenser air out of the coils and across the top of the compressor to get the most efficient cooling performance. Thank You.

So, I have to buy another fan motor just to get the fan blade and bracket? Isn’t there a fan blade (plastic) and just the bracket for this motor?

(edit)

I am able to mount the fan motor on the existing bracket, I do need the plastic fan blade that I guess just pushes on the fan motor shaft. I hope the fan blades are not too large for the bracket. What is the pn for the replacement fan blade?
