Check the dishwasher base for signs of a leak, or a jammed float assembly. This sounds like the dishwasher is in flood mode…(it thinks the float is indicating water in the base assembly.

Hi On the kenmore elite dishwasher, There is no water entering the washer in wash mode and the sump pump (return pump) is trying to remove water in the well. washer still runs with door open. Any suggestions
Again you will need to get access to the base of the machine where the float assembly is located and 1. look for a leak or water in the Base (section under the tub where the pump and motor is located. 2. If a leak is found then locate where it is coming from and repair or replace those parts. 3 If no leak or water is found, find the float assembly and check to see if it is stuck or jammed.
