kenmore elite coldspot refrigerator not cooling

My refrigerator is not cooling. The fan on the back works, the lights inside the refrigerator work but the inside of the refrigerator and freezer are not cold. No iced up walls in freezer. Already cleaned the coils behind the kick panel. Still not working. From what I have read, it seems like it is most likely the compressor and I may need a hard start kit. Does that seem to be true? If so, are all hard start kits the same (ie will work on any model refrigerator/compressor)? Thanks for your help.

anyone? need to get this fixed today.

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?

If the fan motor on the back is working then the compressor must work as well. They should work together. You can touch the compressor to make sure if it’s working.

If the compressor is not working then you can try to replace the start relay. If it would not help then the compressor itself has gone bad. Such repair is very costly but if it is less than half of price for a new refrigerator and your old fridge is still in good shape then it could be worth fix it.

Is it easy to replace the start relay? I called a refrigerator repairman today and he couldn’t come for a couple of days, but he also mentioned the hard start to essentially jump start the compressor. Would this work? If so, what’s the difference in doing putting in a hard start vs. the start relay? Do you sell the hard start kits?

ps I did touch the compressor. Doesn’t seem to be working (not humming or anything).
thanks for all of your help

You can install a hard start 3-in-1 device instead of OEM start relay, but keep in mind:

  1. It can damage the control board
  2. If a compressor needs a hard start kit, it is most probably on its deathbed anyhow

The 3-in-1 hard start device AP4503415
