Element is getting way too hot. I’ve replaced the Thermostat, Cycling Thermostat, Thermal Limiter, Heating Element, Power Resistor & Wiring Harness (& lubed the drum bearing) in the dryer on this 2000 model combo unit (basically it’ll will run for another 15yrs if I can fig this out).
So I think it’s down to, a) Power resistor installed wrong (because updated part did not match previous equipment and using this solution (pic attached) was incorrect to connect blue wire/med setting & low settings on temp switch or, b) Temp select switch is bad.
Any input from a pro would be greatly appreciated. My girlfriend is really hating my diy attitude by now and the laundry is piling up.
please explaine way too hot? Here is the break down on how the heat system works
power is applyed to element it is eighter on or off unless some thing breaks that power supply IE. hi limit switch or thermastat.
The HI limit switch is a safty switch to shutt if down in the case your normal heat thermastat fails.
The normal thermastat shuts off when the temp reaches Normal operating temp
The low heat does the same thing
The resistor ONLY LIMITS THE POWER OF THE HEATER so realisticy it cant over heat your dryer in NORMAL mode
i would check you snap disc thermastats again mabey one the hi limit got in the wrong spot
Some have the temp stamped on them
how to test the snap disc … put a multi meator set to continunity most meaters will hace a auditable tone when the black and red meater leads are touched …
place the leads on snap disc and you should get a tone meaning power is going through it … next use a lighter or other heat source slowly heat disc
you should hear a clunck or pop … this is the disc warping opening the circut and turning off the power to the element. TEs this by putting the continunity meater on the tabs again and you should hear no tone from meater.
hope that helped … no go be that hero and fix your dryer … mabey shell let you test out the spinn cycle on washer =)
If you have a wire diagram id look to make sure when on low it is sending the power to the low t stat .. mabey your low switch is bad wrong or miss wired …

Can you give me a quick run down of what it means if it overheats at various settings? It seems only to get really hot on low, but I’d like to know in any case.
