Hi, my Kenmore 70 series electric dryer wont shut off. At first i set it to the timed dry setting, did the whole cycle but when it got right before its supposed to stop, timer froze and dryer kept going unless i open the door or move timer myself but wouldnt make buzzer sound. So i replaced the timer and still has same problem but now if i move timer to the off position timer buzzes. Please help, thankyou.
I have the same problem on an old, electric Kenmore, model #86873100. Any help out there?
Check the power resistor that connects to the timer. Should read about 4 to 5 thousand ohms.

So is the resistor on the pink / red wire coming from RE? It doesn’t quite look like the recommended replacement part on the Sears website. I attempted to measure the resistance over the wire and it was not 4k ohms. The wiring diagram makes me think I should be looking for a connection labeled RS, not RE. But I do not see “RS” anywhere on the timer.

The resistor is the odd looking device to the right of the timer in your photo. The replacement is entirely different looking but performs the same function. The device on the left with the pink wire is the buzzer. Post a photo of your wiring diagram.

Thanks. So I am attaching a picture of the wiring diagram and the part I think you are referring to. That part measures no resistance at all.
So there is currently a wire that goes to from the timer to the resistor and then from the resistor a long wire goes far into the back panel of the dryer (I haven’t removed this yet.). So the replacement part will now replace the two wires and the old resistor?
And really - thanks again for replying!!

I got the replacement resistor finally and it was easy to install. Dryer turns off now as intended! Hope this helps someone else out there too.
Good job and thanks for letting us know. I somehow missed your previous post and didn’t get to answer your question.
