Kenmore Dishwasher

I have a Kenmore Elite ($1,000) dishwasher which is just filling up with water and that’s about it. The dishwasher doesn’t spray/turn inside and it appears this problem is caused by the motor not working since it was very hot too the touch. Do I replace this motor at a cost of $180 doing it myself and if it is the motor is this difficult to change? I see four bolts holding this in. I find it strange it would have failed being around 4 1/2 years old? Please help. Thanks:rolleyes:

Most likely the problem is a bad motor. It is not too difficult to replace it, yourself, especially if you will follow the instructions from the tech sheets.

Also I would recommend to check the chopper assembly and inspect the pump for any foreign objects inside during the motor replacement.

You can buy the motor from Appliance Parts Pros for just $113.23 instead of $180 somewhere else. The part number for the motor assembly is AP3179651

Thanks for the help!! The motor assemby I thought I needed was AP3179652 for model number 665.16493300 (Kenmore Elite dishwasher stainless steel) which is more expensive then motor assemby AP3179651 stated in the thread above? Please advise which motor assemby since there is a price difference between the two. Thanks for the reply and help!

Where did you find this part number?

According to the model number you posted and Sears database the Whirlpool part number for the motor assembly is 8534942 which is Appliance Parts Pros part number AP3179651.

I would like to thank everyone! Today my dishwasher gave out… it was filling with water, but was not circulating.

Through the information I found here I was able to disassemble the lower arm, remove and test the food shredder (which was able to spin)..

I later found that the motor’s spinning axel broke/was rusted away.

I went adhead and ordered the replacement motor (and the food shredder)..

I hope to install on Wednesday.

Gene or Appliance Expert, I have installed the motor to my dishwasher which Gene gave great instructions. However, putting the dishwasher back the hot lead came lose causing sparks now the dishwasher appears not to have power (just my luck). I checked the fuses which all appear to be OK but will be looking for other sources. Can someone tell me where the TCO (Thermo Fuse) is located in model number 665.16493300 (Kenmore Elite dishwasher) and what type and size is this fuse? Any other suggestions are also welcome. Note: The dishwasher ran great before putting it back. Thanks. :frowning:

The thermal fuse is located on the control board case (#6 on the diagram).

  • The part number for the thermal fuse is AP3178588
