my kenmore deep freezer has a prob. at the compressor it click/buzzes/clicks and will not run . I think it is the capacitor/relay/overload parts gone bad (maybe due to a big mouse nest found next to the compressor!) can I replace these parts with a 3 in 1 unit for my older model? and if so what part # my model is #198.8102353 1/4 hp compressor 4.7 amp 110-130v
I would not buy any parts till the compressor is checked with an ohm meter, or amp probe. To properly install anything will probably need the use of a meter.
The Sears site is down right now, will check later to add info.
Seems like your compressor parts are no longer available. I would try the 3 n 1 device (RCO410) available at this site; This assumes your compressor does not require a run capacitor ( a black, square device with two pins. Your symptoms show either a damaged, or shorted start winding,or seized compressor. It is advisable to check your run current when it starts. If well over nameplate rating, your 3 n 1 might catch on fire. Also, install a 1000 joule surge protector to prevent further damage/ 3 n 1 fire. You will need an ohm meter to properly install it. Post back to get directions for installation.
thanks for the response richappy, I tried thawing the freezer thinking the coils maybe frozen and stopping curculation and let set awhile then plugged it back in it ran for a bit , checked laterit was humming and the compressor top was hot. this freezer is setting in my attached garage and the temps out side are in the single digits, could this have any affect like maybe the coils didn’t thaw if they were frozen? these are images of my compressor parts , hope they load ok . also the freezer has been in garage for about ten yrs.

Considering the low ambient temperatures, it is likely your compressor has failed due to poor oil viscosity/ lack of lubrication. Without a amp probe to check, it is not recommended to use a 3 n 1 hard start device, too risky!
