Brand: Kenmore 90 Series Model Number: 11020922990 Main Symptom: Will Not Spin or Drain What happens & when:
This is a Kenmore (Whirlpool ) 90 series Direct Drive Washing Machine. It will not Spin or Empty Water. I have done a lot of work on it through the years. Last year I took it all the way apart to replace the leaking Agitator Shaft Seal. Previously, I replaced the Transmission and Clutch. I love this machine and fear it way have reached the end.
The Spin Cycle has stopped working. I thought it might be the timer, as all other functions were working. I purchased a used timer that was working (machine tub broke). No change, so I replaced the clutch. After reading suggestions here I purchased a new Basket Drive Assembly.
The drive block was corroded with white dust and the basket is rusted inside. I cleaned both with a wire brush.
After reassembly, the machine spun for a few minutes then it was back to nothing. (The replacement Basket Drive brakes worked much better than the 20 year old brakes.) The timer gets to pause/cool down & stops. Moving the control to spin has no result. When I turn the coupling the transmission shaft spins. I replaced the transmission 2 years ago because the seal was leaking. Please Help!

When it gets to a spin cycle, does the motor hum? A failing start device could have just enough to get the motor to agitate but not enough to start it for a spin.
The washer will not do anything in the spin cycle. It will not drain. The timer gets to the cool down cycle and just stops. The timer doesn’t move. There is no motor humming. That is why I initially thought the timer was broken. The replacement timer gets the same result. Strangely, when I installed the new Basket Drive, everything worked for a very short time. Now it will not spin and will not drain. (Plus I had the fun of manually emptying the tub.) Thank you for your help.
When it is at the spin portion of a regular cycle, is there 120VAC when testing from the red wire to the yellow wire, then from the blue wire to the white wire with black stripe on the timer?
Thank you for all your help. When I read motor I bought a new machine – 4th of July sale. My beloved Kenmore is now on my back patio for trade in ($50 value). I did initially believe it was the timer which is why I replaced it. If I was able to do the test what would the voltage values show? (I’m curious & info may help someone else.)
The videos from AppliancePartsPros are superior and have been a great help. It’s great to know that parts purchased will always fit. Again - Thank you for all your help.
