JennAire Oven

Am in the middle of installing a new Jenn Aire oven with downdraft and have a part that is a black cylinder about 1" in diameter and 2 inches long. Weak magnet at the end. Says “Drying Only” on the side. What is it and what is it for?

Thanks

What the installation instructions said about this part? Can you post a picture of the part?

Gene.

There is nothing in the paperwork showing this part. It was in a large plastic bag, loose, with other parts bundled into smalled plastic bags. the stove is in and works fine - I am wondering if it is for a dryer or something. Having trouble attaching a picture - will try again in a separate post. THanks!

Sounds very strange. Did you buy any other appliances together with the stove from the same place?

Gene.

Just the oven.

I have no idea what is this part for. Might be a picture will make it clear.

Thanks for trying Gene. I have tried to post a picture on numerous occasions but for some reason it doesn’t work. But the stove/oven does work so I am going to chalk this up to one of life’s mysteries…Thanks again!

Check the size of the picture file. If it’s too large it would not go through.

I made the file smaller - but when I ‘upload’ the dialogue box goes blank after about 10 seconds - tried with several different pictures. I can send you the picture if you have an email I can send it to but that may not be within the rules of the forum.

Try to use the “Contact Us” link on the bottom of this page. Might be the forum Admin could help you.

This is from the Jenn Air range manual…

To set Drying:

  1. The oven door needs to be opened slightly to allow moisture to escape from the oven during the drying process.
    • Open the oven door slightly.
    • Place the magnetic door spacer (Part No. 8010P146-60) over the
plunger switch at the upper right side of the oven frame. The spacer
provides a gap between the oven frame and the oven door to allow
    moisture to escape.
    • Gently close the door until the spacer magnet makes contact with the oven door. The magnet will hold the spacer in the proper position during the drying process and allows the door to be opened at any time during
    drying without losing proper positioning.

Hi, thanks for posting your question. We had the very same cylinder in a drawer and couldn’t remember where it came from, but your question told us it must have come with our Jenn-air, installed 3 years ago.

So we went to the Use and Care Guide for our downdraft slide-in range (and oven). It shows that cylinder as being the “magnetic door spacer” for “some models” where you could use a drying rack to dry food in the oven. The spacer goes over the plunger on the door and provides a gap between the oven frame and oven door to allow moisture to escape. The guide says it is Part Number 8010P146-60.

Its a spacer to hold the oven door ajar while you are in Drying Mode.
