Does anyone know why my refer / freezer blows the breaker in the main electrical panel when I plug the unit into the wall outlet? It was working fine until recently.
Hi.
Was it always plugged in the same outlet?
Also, please provide the model and serial number.
Thank you.
Simon.
Unfortunately, I am not where the unit is located so cannot give you numbers. But, yes, it previously worked fine for many years on the same plug and the plug seems fine.
Hi.
Unplug the refrigerator, open rear panel, remove cover from compressors contacts.
Remove relay and using the multimeter check the 3 pins to the ground (one test lid to the copper tubing, another one to the pin.)
If it’ll show continuity - you have bad compressor.
Thank you. Post the results.
Simon.
Ok, I hope to be able to do this late next week. If the compressor has failed, is it worth replacing?
Hi.
It’s a complicated job, requires professional skills and special equipment.
Check with local appliance companies for the estimate.
Good luck. Post the results.
Simon.
I pulled the leads off of the compressor and checked each for continuity to ground. All three pins have continuity to ground. Also, when the compressor leads are disconnected and the refer is plugged in, the breaker remains untripped ( and all other features of the refer ( lights, fan etc ) work fine ). Is it safe to assume that the compressor has failed?
related to my post a minute ago, is it possible the the compressor start capacitor could be the culprit?
Hi.
Bad news - it’s the compressor.
Simon.
