Jenn-Air oven will not maintain set termperature

Press preheat. Set oven temperature (example 400 degrees). Heats up normally showing temperature increasing. When temperature indicates 400 it beeps. Put food in oven. Can observe the lower heating element cycling on and off to maintain set temperature. All normal so far.
A while later open oven to check if food is ready. The food is not ready and can feel the oven is not as hot as it should be. Close oven, press cancel, press bake. Set oven temperature 400 degrees. Temperature indicates much lower, how much varies but have seen as low as 315 degrees.
Oven again heats up normally as before, but again will not maintain the temperature.
The problem is the oven is not maintaining the set temperature.
Please recommend what I should do.

Did you resolve your issue? We have the exact same problem with our duel fuel downdraft unit (JDS9860CDS02). We have spent close to $150 having the electronics replaced, but have the same issue. It does seem sporadic. We don’t seem to have problems in convection mode, but we might just not recognize the issue since we don’t use convection that much.

I never got a reply on this forum.
I posted the same question on applianceblog.com and got help immediately.

FIXED Jenn-Air JES9860BAS electric oven will not maintain set termperature
Pete.

Those links are no longer active. I had a similar problem. I replaced the bake element and counter intuitively it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the reply! Yes sadly applianceblog is no more. The thermostat in the oven plugs into the range harness, and I read that this connection can develop resistance at high temperature, even though it is behind the oven, and confuse the electronic control. It was recommended to cut out the plug and socket and connect the wires with ceramic wire nuts. I did that and it seemed better, but I don’t think I have totally fixed it, we just live with it. Your experience is interesting.
