Top Oven Bake Element had a breach and was arcing and flaring up last Saturday evening. Kids were baking cookies and finally cut the main breaker after about 15 mins. The night before my wife was trying to make dog treats by baking 12 hrs at 150 degrees. (I think its just a coincidence in timing). Only way to stop the flareup was cutting the power at main breaker.
Upon inspection I could see a hole in the bottom bake element. I replaced it yesterday and tried to test out the oven functions. The upper oven bake model is really slow to heat up 30 mins to hit 250 degrees. I never see the element glow red and it appears it is just heating from broiler element being on low. I conclude something else must be wrong.
I then proceed to study the service manuals and read online all sorts of testing to perform. I tested the new bake element with ohm meter and it shows about 20. I tested the oven sensor and it showed about 1090 ohms at room temperature. I run the system tests via holding stop time for 10 seconds after powerup. It seems every test is passing, I hear beeps and relays clicking on most of the key buttons. The fault code shows F00 for all 3 sections. The membrane buttons all seem fairly well responsive and I never recall any problems with any of them. I opened the top panel to get access to the relay boards and control panel, I believe the one on the right side is for upper and one on left is for lower oven. None of the boards appear to have any obvious signs of “burns”.
When testing the oven components, timer/clock and the lower oven is working 100% fine. The upper oven broiler is also working fine, its just the upper bake element not heating up.
Based on other posts, the upper relay board now seems suspect, but is rather expensive, so I’d like to get some confirmation that this is the issue or if something else simpler should be checked out? I’ve seen some sites show the part no longer available and links to repair facilities to repair the relays versus some sites seem to have the part for about $220.
Appreciate any assistance here,
Mike
