Jenn-air dishwasher makes grinding noises

My J-A dishwasher has been making some grinding noises, as if there is glass in the garbage disposer. Today it graduated to making a rather loud vibrating noise during much of the time it is working, but not all of the time. I hope to fix it myself. Any ideas?? Where do I start?

Hello, my dishwasher is doing the same thing. Where you able to repair yours and what was the fix?
Thanks you.

I bought a new dishwasher. Repair was going to cost more than it was worth by far.

 We took our Jenn Air dishwasher model number JDB1100AWS (manual says JDB-5) completely apart after experiencing the exact same symptoms. We found the problem and now it’s working great. A small piece of plastic had broken off of one of the DW baskets and was stuck down inside the disposer. The chopper blade was hitting the plastic causing a terrible grinding noise and buzzing sounds. It probably would have shorted out the motor eventually. Hope this helps!

can you expand on how you took it all apart? Did you remove it from the cabinet and start on the bottom or through the area you could access where you put the dishes? Need some help if possible please. Thanks!

No, we did not detatch it from the cabinet…just remove all your racks and start from the inside. BE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE DW AT THE BREAKER BOX.

I also had a grinding noise that sounded awful. I too took apart the “stuff” at the bottom of the tub and found a litlle piece of plastic that was hitting the grinder. I didn’t pull the dishwasher from the wall or turn off the electricity. I made a decision that if I had to go any farther than the grinder, I’d call a professional. All I needed was a screwdriver (the “star” looking bit) to take off the necessary parts. It honestly took less than 20 minutes to fix. Here’s a link to the service manual:[/COLOR]

Thank you to this post, I was able to take the parts apart in 20 minutes and take a fruit stone out of the grinder, which was behind the noise. Now, the dishwasher is working as before with no noise! You made my day!

As so many have said, it was a plastic tab from DW basket that broke off and was caught in the food grinder. Such a straightforward repair. It sounded as if something major was wrong. Thank you for sending us in the right direction!
