Is it easy to replace ceramic cooktop/ the glass top only

Gentlemen,
Our glass on our Whirlpool ceramic electric cooktop got broken (lid fell) and I thought I’d have to buy a whole new cooktop. This cooktop sits atop a granite counter with an electric over underneath. Upon exploring internet for prices on a entire new cooktop, I ran across your website and saw that it appears possibe to replace the glass only. Am this possible and is this hard? Can the average guy do this? Are there any instructions out there?

It is possible.
There is a number of different tops, probably different colors but you will have to call to confirm this.
It is not a 5 minute job but I would not say it is hard.

Also am just an average guy so I cannot see why not.
Just take your time.
Make notes and sometimes a digital camera comes in handyif you thing you may forget how it goes back together.
Be sure to kill power to the unit. You would be surprised how many people forget this stem.

See the manual.

It is pretty easy to replace it. If you kill the power to it. Then look underneath the cabinet to the bottom side of the cooktop, and look on each side, and make sure there is no braket or anything holding the cooktop in place. Usually not!! Then push up on the bottom, left side or right side, and top should come up. If the oven was installed properly there will be enough power cord to flip the cooktop upside down, and then there will be a line of screws to take off which will release the bottom base from the glass. It is best to take of there burner knobs, before you flip it over. I am a service tech, I just kill the power, and unhook the wires underneath the cabinet, and take the cooktop and lay it on the floor, withj a blacket underneath it and do it on the floor. It take a little time, but it is pretty easy. Tom Appliance Educator, Appliance Parts, Washer and Dryer Parts, Refridgerator and Freezer Parts, Stove and Oven Parts
