Started back in June during the great heat wave and my A/C was also dead. The fridge was warm and I just assumed that someone had left the door open and maybe the heat had overwhelmed the fridge. Made sure the doors were closed and everything was fine. . . . until this past weekend.

I check the temp everymorning when I open the fridge. Saturday morning the fridge was in the 40s and the freezer was in the 30s. Off to the store for ice and all of the food went to the basement fridge and the coolers.

I had to go to work but when I got back the fridge was working again and has been fine since then.

I did a bit of internet reading and think that it might be the starter relay. What do the experts think?

It would be recommended to check and see if the fans are running when the unit is not cooling. If it is not running, turn the dial for the defrost timer and see if the unit comes back on. If it does then this would be a faulty defrost timer.

Which fans? I don’t recall any fans running when the unit stopped cooling.

It doesn’t have the mechanical defrost timer, just a little circuit board they called the “adaptive defrost controller.”

The fan in the freezer is what should be running along with the condenser fan. If neither are running at the time that it stops cooling then it sounds like the unit is sticking in the defrost cycle and the defrost control would need to be replaced.

Thanks. I guess that I’ll put the starter relay that I got into my big box of “parts for another day.”

Since this has only happened twice, I guess I won’t know if the repair did the trick.

Thanks again for the advice.
