I am replacing an igniter. See photos. The NEW igniter has the square plastic end with small “tubes” to insert stove wire ends into. The old one also pictures include is one I installed as a replacement years ago and it worked well no problems. BUT note this old one did not have the square plastic end like the latest one I just got. It just has wire ends I twisted together with the ends from the stove and covered with the caps. My question on installing the new. 1) do I twist the stove wires and try to force them into the little plastic tubes? 2) Can I just cut off the little plastic “box”, strip down a bit to those wires an twist those ends together with the stove wire ends and reuse the caps from the older igniter to cover?
In this case, option 2 is the better choice. Simply shoving the bare wires into the connector sockets does not guarantee a good connection, which could lead to arcing, overheating, or a short to ground. Any of these issues could potentially damage your control board.
Always use new, clean wire nuts and do not reuse the old ones. For safety, be sure to unplug the stove before performing any repairs.
