Indoor Dryer Vent

Hello!

I just cleaned out my indoor dryer vent and it seems to be drying much quicker now =)

My question is, do I need to hook up the water reservoir or does it not matter? What’s the point of it, to catch the little bit of lint that comes out?

thanks!

Yes the point of the water is to catch the lint. I know filling it gets a bit old. what i recommend and is easier is to get a pantyhose a rubber band and hook it up to the end of the vent hose. You will still need to clean the panyhose but not as often as filling up the lint catch with water.

thanks for the reply, that sounds awesome! Is there no advantage to using a water filter (which I find messy), which most kits come with?

thanks!

I am by no means a pro and I can’t say how well the water resevoir method works, but you really don’t want to exhaust the dryer into living space without capturing the lint, however small amount it may seem. The particles can be very small and make their way into your family’s lungs. Also, if exhausted into to the same space with other systems, you can damage their motors and clog their filters. Is it possible to run the vent to the outside with the help of a blower assist motor? (My terminology may be bad. I am sure the pros know of systems.) I used the panyhose system for a while, but that also keeps the heat indoors. I don’t know whether the water basin system moderates that effect. I suppose you could also try a bigger bucket so you wouldn’t have to fill it so often.

Reading elsewhere I was told the pantyhose is no good because it can restrict airflow and clogs very quickly. Also, that the water cools the air.

So I guess I’ll need to buy a new kit, only ten dollars or so.
