Incorrect part? W11084156 circulation pump filter

Brand: Kitchen-Aid
Model Number: KDTM404ESS3
Main Symptom: Incorrect part?
What happens & when:

The circulation pump filter was clearly broken (torn metal mesh) and needs to be replaced. It appears that the correct replacement part is W11084156. However when the order arrived it looks significantly different from the original. The new part is smaller, with a narrower flange, and measures 2.8 inches in diameter. The original is larger with a sider flange that is 3.29 inches in diameter.

Customer service helped me verify that the correct part number is listed on the packaging and shipped another part to me, which is identical to the first replacement. They are unable to help further and directed me to this forum to confirm whether the part is correct.

The photos in the W11084156 product listing look very similar to the original part. - Whirlpool W11084156 Dishwasher Circulation Pump Filter | Genuine OEM Part . Maybe the design has been revised and the photos were just not updated.

The part that was delivered to me might be a different part that was mislabeled (for example Whirlpool W11643383 Dishwasher Pump Filter Assembly | Genuine OEM Part).

It seems like the new part does not fit the pump/housing very well, and definitely not in the same way that the original part does.

Is the new part actually correct, or is it supposed to be more similar to the original?

Hi,

Hi,

Part W11084156 is the correct OEM factory replacement pump filter for your KitchenAid KDTM404ESS3. However, Whirlpool manufactured two visually similar circulation pump filters with slightly different diameters for different generations of circulation motors.

If your new filter appears slightly different from the original or doesn’t fit quite the same, it’s important to verify that your dishwasher still has the original circulation pump assembly and hasn’t had the motor replaced with a different revision at some point. The correct filter is determined by the version of the circulation pump that’s installed, not just the dishwasher model number.

Thanks! A photo of the circulation pump assembly is here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7Hp6JfNeKTHJgfjv6

The label indicates:
P/N W10772008
Model K41AYMFS-1097

Can that tell us which version of the filter would be compatible?

Hi,

Part W11084156 is the correct OEM factory replacement pump filter for your KitchenAid KDTM404ESS3. If another part number shows as a substitute, it is not the correct filter for your dishwasher. Whirlpool produced two visually similar circulation pump filters with slightly different diameters for different generations of circulation motors, and although some catalogs list them as interchangeable, they are not.

For your model, W11084156 is the correct part to use. If a different filter was received because it superseded to another number, it will not fit properly Whirlpool W11084156 Dishwasher Circulation Pump Filter | Genuine OEM Part

Thanks for confirming that W11084156 is the correct part for this dishwasher. The next step is to check whether the part I received is truly part W11084156 or if it is a different part that was mislabeled. Please look at the following photo and tell me whether it looks like W11084156 or a different part that is visually similar but slightly different.

My question was not answered, but just noting what I did to help anyone else: Best guess is that my dishwasher has an older revision of both the circulation pump and filter, and everything available today is a newer revision which has a smaller diameter. So likely the official recommendation would be to replace both the pump and filter. What I did instead was disassemble both the new and old filter and put the new ‘innards’ into the old filter housing. To disassemble, remove the e-clip and push the shaft through (might need to rotate the mesh part to align the flat of the shaft the right way). The internal filter components appear to fit the old filter housing correctly, and with everything reinstalled into the dishwasher it seems to be working.
