I am suspecting the main Ice making unit but I cannot find a video showing me how to expose it so I can check the unit and the water supply. After removing the ice bin, there are 2 screws visible but removing them doesn’t seem to help me expose the ice maker itself.
After removing the ice bucket and the two screws that hold the housing, you should be able to access the icemaker. Before you go too far, I would look at the wiring going into the bottom of the hinge to see if any of it is broken or frayed. They have had a few issues with broken wiring at the bottom hinge.
Hey thanks!! I guess I was just not pulling hard enough or in the right place. Got the ice maker exposed and I think it is definitely a bad ice maker motor as I saw some cubes stuck on the mechanism (so I guess it was getting water) but they never dropped. The wiring at the hinge LOOKED ok to me. Next step is to check the electrical connections at the ice maker, but I had to come back to find out where to measure and what readings to expect. Pretty sure I have seen videos on that, but if you have any quick tips on what to look for, I am happy to have them.
Just to bring an end to the story, I have a working ice maker again!!
I think it just got stuck in the cycle, and the ice that had formed froze too hard and prevented the motor from turning. Basically, I exposed the ice maker, cleared off the ice, followed the YouTube video advice on using a jumper wire to both test that water was being delivered and to make sure there was power to the motor and to initiate a cycle of the paddles turning.
All checked out, and after putting it back together, the ice maker was working again! It seemed to take a bit longer than it did previously, but all is well and the new Ice Age has begun (for $0 in repair bills!)
