Icemaker not dumping?

Brand:LG
Model Number: LRMVC2306S
Main Symptom: Replacement icemaker no longer working.
What happens & when: Icemaker was replaced in March 2026 by new unit purchased on order 16930421. Has operated normally until recently when it stopped dispensing ice and frozen water was found in the ice hopper. Ice maker had external ice on the ice molds. I did not attempt to cycle the icemaker in this condition. Removed it from the refrigerator and allowed it to thaw and dry at room temperature. Reinstalled it the next day. Operated it dry (water supply off) with the reset button. Appeared to operate smoothly and normally with no unusual noise. Turned on water supply and it seemed to fill normally when restarted. After overnight operation, found only water in the ice bucket. When inspected, ice was in the molds and along the edge of the mold separation. I pressed the reset button and the icemaker operated but did not dispense the ice. Water then came on and was dispensed over the existing ice and overflowed into the ice bucket. When operated again (with water off) with the reset button, the icemaker again operated and the existing ice fell into the ice bucket. When the cycle was completed, it appeared that the ice molds did not close completely. I could manually push the molds closed an additional approximately 1/16 inch.

Hi, if you’re seeing a gap between the two halves of the Craft Ice mold, that could explain why the ice is getting stuck and why you’re ending up with water or a sheet of ice in the bucket.

If the mold isn’t closing correctly, the Craft Ice may not release properly during the harvest cycle. LG actually lists ice stuck in the tray and water or a sheet of ice in the bin as Craft Ice Maker issues that may require correction to the harvest/heater operation.

Once ice remains trapped in the mold, additional water can create an overflow or leaking condition instead of producing a normal batch. LG also recommends checking water pressure and running the Craft Ice Maker test when an overfill occurs.

I would run the ice maker test cycle and watch the mold closely. Make sure it closes completely, heats/releases the ice, and returns to its proper position before it fills again. If that gap remains or the mold cannot complete the harvest correctly, I would suspect a faulty Ice Maker assembly.

Hi, there are a few more things I would check that could be keeping the mold from closing completely.

First, check the wire harness for interference. When the ice maker was reinstalled, the harness at the back or top of the housing may have gotten pinched or pulled too tight. If the wires are under tension, they could physically keep the mold from closing that last little bit. Pull the ice maker back out slightly and make sure the harness is routed correctly and has enough slack.

Next, inspect the cam gear and drive motor area. Look closely at the plastic gears for any cracked, damaged, or stripped teeth. Also check for a small piece of ice or mineral buildup caught in the gear track that could stop the mold before it fully closes.

Lastly, check the actual freezer temperature. You want it around 0°F (-18°C). If the freezer is running too warm, it can interfere with proper freezing and harvesting of the Craft Ice.

If all of that checks out but the mold still leaves a gap and won’t close completely, I would suspect an internal mechanical problem with the Craft Ice Maker assembly itself.

I removed the icemaker from the fridge and inspected it for physical damage. Seeing none, I let it thaw out and dry completely and reinstalled it. The molds were not fully closed at that time. When I re-energized the refrigerator with the icemaker in the off position, the molds closed completely and stayed closed. I then turned on the icemaker and pressed the reset button. The icemaker cycled through smoothly without any unusual noises, but the molds did not return to the fully closed position when the cycle was complete. I repeated the cycle several times using the reset button and the molds did not fully close.
