Kitchen Aid side by side not making ice. Was making it intermittently and now quit all together. Freezer seems to go through defrost cycles too frequently as well. I think the ice maker just needs replacement. I was hoping to get step by step to diagnose the issue. The part number I found for my fridge’s icemaker is

Hi.
Open the freezer door and check the LED on the right.
2 blinks and the pause?
Close the small door on the left.
If there is the same code - 2 blinks and the pause, then replace the optic control kit.
If you are getting solid light - then most likely it’s the icemaker.
To illuminate the water inlet valve switch around the electrical connectors at the valve’s solenoids and push the water lever at the dispenser. If the water will flow - the valve is good.

Pulled the ice maker out and discovered the gear on the timer had broken at the shaft. I got the part number from you guys and called the 800 number, they verified the number and I ordered it. I got the part in short order, installed it in less than five minutes and heard the first drop of ice within an hour. Very cool

My kitchen aid does this and the way I fix it is to take a hair dryer to the back tube that feeds the water to the ice make. It is possibly frozen. If it is really frozen hard you might even have to use the hair dryer on the back of the frige where the water tube feeds into the freezer at the top.
