Ice Maker Not Working KitchenAid

I have a similar issue to the other folks in this thread.

Water dispenses fine. Ice maker makes ice sporaticlly, maybe once or twice a day. When I close the emmiter door I have no red LED. If I close the door switch at the top of the freezer the LED starts blinking.

Thanks,

Nathan

Nathan,

What is the exact measured temperature in the freezer?

Thanks for the reply Gene -

It seems that the temperature would be a simple thing to get, however modenr houshold thermomethers both mercury and digital don’t go below 90 degrees.

Any suggestions?

Nathan

Nathan,

I’m afraid there is much more serious problem than not working ice maker. Looks like your refrigerator is not cooling properly. 90°F is warmer than the temperature in the kitchen. You have to call a certified tech to check the sealed system.

Gene.

Sorry Gene… I think you miss-understood my reply. My freezer is not 90 degrees, infact it’s quite cold. I was mearly saying that the generic household thermometers (the kind you use when your sick) don’t register below 90 degrees.

So with that I was unable to answer your original question of how cold is the freezer. Other than saying everything in there is frozen properly I can’t get an exact reading.

Nathan

Sorry for this misunderstanding.

Looks like you have to buy a special refrigerator thermometer. They usually priced bellow $10 and you can find them at many stores.

Similar problem here too! I have a KitchenAid side by side KSRA25ILSS03 and my ice maker stopped working all the sudden. The ice in the door works fine and I can put already made ice in the dispenser and it will dispense it from the door. When I manually close the flap on the left side the sensor light stays solid red but when I release the flap the red lite blinks twice and then off, twice and then off, twice and then off… Any ideas?

I have a siimilar problem as well. I have a Kitchenaid refrigerator that the icemaker has quit working. When I open the door the LED flashes twice. When i close the flap on the left the LED on the right stays on. When I simulate the door closing the light goes off. Is this a bad icemaker? MOdel no. KSRW25CRSS01

Remove the ice maker (the instructions are attached) but do not disconnect the wire harness. Check the water feeding tube for any icicles or frost inside.

If there are any, defrost it using a hair dryer.

If it is clear, remove the ice maker head cover and check for 120 VAC between the “L” & “N” test points. Make sure the test probes go in at least 1/2".

Post the results.

You can use the same instructions as I posted for kfinitz.

Where can I find the instructions for removing the ice maker?

Just click on the link in the previous post.

Gene,

Unfortunately I can not read your mind. The complete model number of the refrigerator and full description on the problem might help better.

It looks like I’m having the same problems but my refig is a Whirlpool Gold GC5SHEXNS00. The ice marker is filling up, its just not kicking out the ice. Thinking ice was jammed, I removed the ice maker, ran hot water thru it and removed all ice. I reinstalled and check the next day. The ice maker did fill up with water, but still not kicking out the ice. I verified that the black tube was free and not iced up. I then check the volts between the “L” and the “N” and getting exactly 106.6 VAC. Next I borrowed a working ice marker module from another frig, installed and getting same results. The LED light blinks twice, then repeats itself when the freezer door is open. I closed just the emitter door flap…and still blink twice. I then closed the emitter door flap and door switch, the LED turns OFF completely. I watch for about 5 mins and nothing happen. No gears turning. I’m thinking I need a new optic PC board kit (Infrared emitter & receiver) but just want to confirm I’ve done all test and this is likely my problem.

Update:
Now the water will not fill the tray since I took it apart and changed out the ice maker module.

I have a wonderful Kitchenaid KSRG25FVMS that for the last 6 months has been making ice very slowly. This slowness has crept up over time, I didn’t notice the signs: The ice cubes were getting smaller, again you don’t notice this since this happens over a period of months. Also since I almost never use the door water dispenser I assumed all was good there since it was dispensing but very slowly.

For the first few years I replaced the filter whenever it beeped at me in the door, this was about every 6 months. One day I got the bright idea to save money by just resetting the filter timer and not replacing the filter. Since it was only used for ice I figured this wouldn’t be a problem. This was a bad idea.

Fast forward about 4 months (and it’s summer now, I want more ice) and I was getting about 2-3 “harvests” of ice per day…the door water was working (slowly). I used the handy tips on this thread to verify that the LED system was working properly and I even removed the inside ice door that covers the mechanicals since ice cubes (about half size now due to water delivery problems!) were getting stuck on their way to the door bin. So I am at the point where everything should be working fine per the specs and troubleshooting tips in this thread.

Hmmmmm, wonder what would happen if I replaced the filter? Everything is back to normal, tons of normal sized ice, much faster water delivery in the door. I have learned my lesson, replace the dang filter at the proper schedule.

I also have a Kitchenaid with an ice maker problem, but it’s an older model that doesn’t have infrared. Mine is model KSRS25CHSS00. Last time it stopped making ice I replaced the entire IM, this time I want to see if I can just replace a part or two. Symptom - not making ice. If I jumper T - H for the harvest cycle, nothing appears to happen. Jumpering L - V causes water to come in, jumpering M - N will activate the motor, and it does turn and will go all the way around as long as it’s jumpered. When I jumper H - N and feel the heater coil, it does feel warm. But no ice is being made. What does that leave?

Kevin,

Looks like you are on the right track with new optic.

For the ice maker: I’m afraid you could damage something during the module replacement. You’ll see it after you replaced the optic boards.

Steve,

Sounds like the problem is some where in the ice maker control module. You can try to replace it but I would suggest to replace the whole ice maker. The difference in price is just about $10, but the rate of success on ice makers repairs is very low. So, the whole new ice maker will make the repair much more reliable.

Thanks Gene for the reply.

Strange thing happen. Yesterday I open the freezer, felt inside the trays and there was ice. I closed the emitter door flap and the LED light was solid. I then held the door switch and the LED blink once about every second…like it was working again. I closed the door and about 30 sec later I heard the ice kickout. Open the freezer and sure enough, there was ice. But then the LED light went right back to 2 blinks, then pause and repeats it self. Close the emitter and door switches and LED goes completely OFF. Its like it worked one time, then back to nothing. I will order a new optic PC board and hope that fixes it.
