Hello - Thanks in advance for any advice. I have a Fridgidaire Gallery (side by side) fridge/freezer. The ice maker is not producing ice. I’ve tried to defrost the freezer, replaced water inlet valve, and am now stumped. Any advice would be appreciated!
Do you hear a hum coming from the valve area every few minutes or so? If there is a hum, it would be worth checking the fill tube above the ice maker for an ice blockage and clearing the ice if present. If not, there is a test that can be done to see if the ice maker is able to move. If you press the Freezer (FZ) + and the Fresh Food (FF) + buttons at the same time and hold them for 10 seconds, the system should enter into an ice maker diagnostic mode. Press the FF+ button until the code 58C shows up on the display. If the door is opened and the ice bin is removed, the ice bin sensor should be lifting and dropping. Press the FF+ button until 63C shows up and the ice maker tray should be twisting back and forth. What do you find in either check?
When the power selection was pressed during test 55c, was there a hum from the back of the appliance? Also, if you place a thermometer into a small bowl and in the ice bin, what temperature is found after several hours (24 hours would yield the most accurate temperature). If there was a hum, the ice maker would need to be removed to check the fill tube above it. If it is clogged with ice, the ice would need to be cleared and the water valve replaced. If there was not a hum, the main control might be the cause of failure but further testing would be recommended to verify this. Here are links to the valve and the main control for reference.
Thank you again for the help. I have already replaced the inlet valve (that was my original hope for a cure). Now, based on what you’ve said, I wonder if it is just a clogged fill tube. I will try to get the ice maker removed this weekend to investigate that further.
