Ice Maker leaks inside freezer - ICICLES!

my ice maker has begun dripping inside the freezer, down the front and the door, creating large chunks of ice and icicles. The water and ice dispensers work as normal. The little flipper on the icemaker has been broken for a long time, but only prevented the ice from dumping properly, and would need to be reseated every so often.

Oh, and i noticed food on the top shelf of the fridge side freezing recently.

Any advice on how to repair would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

if the cubes are normal size or a little small the water is probably traveling up the water deposits on the icemaker mold and leaking over the top–replace the icemaker if the cubes are extra large the water valve is probably not shutting off soon enough that could be a bad water valve or the icemaker module motor is turning too slow if the motor is turning too slow replace the module

Thanks reliable!

I will take a closer look at the cubes tonight, though I think they were standard size.

In the first scenario that you describe, I assume that you mean to replace the ice mold, not the entire icemaker - as I do not see a part available for that.

Given the second scenario, could the water valve part be called the “inlet valve”, and the icemaker module motor be called the “motor mold”? How could I tell if the motor is turning too slowly?

Thanks again.

i don’t remember replacing a complete i/m on that on the door ice but talk to the parts house there should be a complete one avail. i replace the complete i/m because the hassle of replacing the mold isn’t worth the little bit of savings and there are still common parts to go out (thermostat, module, etc) yes the water valve is the inlet valve and module should be the motor modl as far as the motor speed if the valve is energized long enough for the water to touch the ejector blades it is turning too slow

Just to add my 2 cents…

The water inlet valve kit AP5263471

For several weeks now I have noticed that I am getting icycles forming in my ice collection bin(whirlpool) ..I consulted your forum here and I suspected the problem being a bad water inlet valve..I changed it 2 days ago and this problem still persists..I do have the rest of the icemaker unit…Is that gonna change anything if I put the newer on it..???

Sounds like the problem is a bad ice maker itself. It is more reliable and finely will cost you less money if you replace the whole ice maker.

If you need the correct part number as well as a good price, post the model number of the refrigerator.
