I have a kitchen aid ice maker that is acting crazy. Here are the details:
About two weeks ago I noticed no ice. This happened right at the time the water was off in our neighborhood so I kinda thought after messing with it (turned it on and off as well as unplugged unit, etc) that possibly an air bubble got in the line. Water in door has always worked fine fyi.
Well it starts working again. Two weeks go by and it quits again. This time the little funnel type thing that the water goes into to fill the try is totally frozed up and the line coming from the ceiling of the freezer is frozen up. So, I take the ice maker out of the freezer…remove all ice…remove ice from fill tube coming out of top of freezer. This was this morning. It has refilled but I do not think as of this time it has ejected the ice.
I have same model, but we have water in the tray. had this unit repaired 1 yr ago with same problem, but the tech did not actually find the problem, but changed all ice parts under warrenty. I have all the old parts, but need some guidence to trblshoot

also i have a photo eye that detects that the bin is full. it is lit and responds to the on/off switch, and will blink or be on solid depending on the position of the "closed door device
Let me tell you what also happened. Last night, I tried to test the motor with the wire inserted into the two holes to make sure it spun. It did.
I hooked everything back up, water filled the tray as normal, ice formed then when I came back several hours later I notice the little fingers that sweep out the ice of the tray were pointed down and some ice had been swept out slightly but the frig then sent some more water into the tray so the fingers were basically frozen in place in the middle of the ice freezing tray.
So, I remove the ice maker and cleared out all the ice and now I can not get the motor to test again using the wire in the two holes.
What part “times” the cycle? I assume something is broken in the motor area as the ice fingers did not sweep out all the ice cubes and instead called for water before it really should have.
Any additional helps is appreciated. I really want to get this repaired ASAP and I hope to do it myself and not have to call a service person.
