I just purchased the above motor for the GE Refrig ice auger dispenser. I removed the old one but cannot remove the forked prong that the auger slides into. There is a nut with a special washer/clip to keep the nut from turning or coming loose. I believe it is a left handed thread, but I do not know how to remove the washer/clip to remove the forked prong. Any Ideas? Thanks
Hi Robert,
In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the fridge.
Gene.
Model # is TFX27PRX Thanks for the help…Bob
Hi Robert,
The nut you are talking about is a “J” nut or a permanently mounted speednut clip.
If you can not remove it then break it off and put a new one.
- The part number for the speednut is AP2642658

Gene, thanks for the reply. I just wasn’t sure if I needed to break off the clip and then remove the nut. Then replace the clip upon replacing the motor. Or is it one part? I see the two sides of the nut that are pounded down to keep the clip on, should I file them off and bend the clip off? Then remove the nut? Or is this something that definately needs to be replaced and I should order spares before I attempt to replace the auger motor? Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated…Bob
Bob,
To be honest I never replaced this motor myself and my recommendations based on what I can see on the diagrams and the pictures.
Try to remove this clip to unlock the nut and I believe you can file it off.
Click on the picture in the previous post to enlarge it and you’ll see this nut from both sides.
Good luck.
Gene.
Thanks for the help, I will let you know how I make out…Bob
Gene, I checked the voltage at the plug and it seems like I am getting 120 volts at two of the three prongs. The third one is giving me about 40 volts. The plug is four prongs. I am assuming one is ground. Can you tell me how to check the voltage to be sure I am doing it correctly? Maybe there is a problem with the door switch? I want to make sure I am checking this right before I plug in the motor. Thanks for the help, Bob
A little more information, maybe it will help. I emptied the ice bin and put it back in the freezer. When I push the ice button on the door, the selonoid engages that operates the crushed ice arm attatched to the ice tray. I removed the wires from the auger motor and hooked my meter leads to them. The Voltage at the motor without pushing the button is @ 4.00volts. When I push the front door button the voltage at the auger motor rises to @ 26 volts. Is that the proper voltage? Am I doing this correctly? Thanks again for the help…Bob
Hi Bob,
Did you keep the light switch depressed while measuring voltage at the motor wires?
If you did then 26V is a wrong voltage. It suppose to be 120V for the motor. In that case I would check the light switch first.
Gene.
How do you take speed nut clip off the auger motor?
