Ice Machine Troubleshooting

I have a Whirpool Ice Machine that recently stopped running. About 2 days before this happened, I heard the evaporator motor making noises like the bushings were going out. I replaced the evaporator motor yesterday and attempted to return the machine to service. Evaporator is running along with the motor, unit is getting cold, and water is circulating and draining from the machine. It will not make ice. I suspect the pump that takes the water from the pan to the freezer plate has stopped functioning. Any ideas? Not trying to break the bank with an older machine here…

HI.

If the water is running down the evaporator plate the pump is OK. How cold is the evaporator gets? Is it enough to freeze the water?
If you turn the water off will the evaporator plate freeze over and machine switch from harvest to defrost in a few minutes?

Water is not making it to the evaporator plate. I pulled the circulator pump yesterday. It is seized up… Can’t turn it with a pair of channellocks… I’ll replace that piece and we’ll go forward from there.

Very good. Post the results.

New circulator pump arrived yesterday. Installed it with ease, after a thourogh cleaning of all surfaces and tubing. Drain hoses were about half plugged with scale. Need to up my cleaning schedule for the machine. Ran the 45 minute cleaning cycle to insure I had the system clear of scale and started it up. After about an hour it was dropping ice like it was brand new. Much cheaper than replacing the $1500 unit. Thanks for all the diagnostic assistance. Definetley kept me from chasing my tail on this thing.

You are welcome.
