For Samsung RF263TEAESG/AA (revision 04) with the symptoms you described:

Main symptom:

  • Ice maker will dump ice and refill only when the test button is pressed.
  • It does not harvest automatically.
  • Second test produced only 2 cubes and some crushed ice.

Most likely causes (in order)

  1. Ice maker assembly failure (most likely)
    • Since the test cycle works, the motor, heater, and water valve can be activated.
    • If it never starts a harvest on its own, the internal thermostat or control circuitry in the ice maker is likely not signaling the harvest cycle.
    • On this model, replacing the ice maker assembly is a common repair.
  2. Freezer temperature too warm
    • The ice maker won’t automatically harvest if the mold doesn’t reach approximately 10–15°F (-12 to -9°C) or colder.
    • Verify the actual freezer temperature with a thermometer—not just the display.
  3. Poor water fill
    • If only two cubes formed and the rest were crushed or incomplete, the mold may not be filling completely.
    • Check:
      • Water pressure.
      • Fill tube for partial ice blockage.
      • Fill amount during the test cycle (should fill the mold evenly without overflowing).
  4. Main control board (less common)
    • If freezer temperature is correct and the ice maker assembly has already been replaced, the main PCB could be failing to initiate automatic harvests.

Recommended diagnosis

  • Verify freezer temperature is 0°F (-18°C) or colder.
  • Observe the water fill during the test cycle:
    • Full, even fill → suspect the ice maker assembly.
    • Weak fill → inspect the fill tube, water pressure, and inlet valve.
  • If temperature and fill are both good, replace the ice maker assembly before condemning the main PCB.

Based on your description

The fact that pressing the test button consistently forces a harvest and refill, but it never harvests by itself, strongly points to a failed ice maker assembly. The incomplete cubes suggest checking the water fill at the same time, but they do not explain why automatic harvest never starts.
