For Samsung RF263TEAESG/AA (revision 04) with the symptoms you described:
Main symptom:
- Ice maker will dump ice and refill only when the test button is pressed.
- It does not harvest automatically.
- Second test produced only 2 cubes and some crushed ice.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Ice maker assembly failure (most likely)
- Since the test cycle works, the motor, heater, and water valve can be activated.
- If it never starts a harvest on its own, the internal thermostat or control circuitry in the ice maker is likely not signaling the harvest cycle.
- On this model, replacing the ice maker assembly is a common repair.
- Freezer temperature too warm
- The ice maker won’t automatically harvest if the mold doesn’t reach approximately 10–15°F (-12 to -9°C) or colder.
- Verify the actual freezer temperature with a thermometer—not just the display.
- Poor water fill
- If only two cubes formed and the rest were crushed or incomplete, the mold may not be filling completely.
- Check:
- Water pressure.
- Fill tube for partial ice blockage.
- Fill amount during the test cycle (should fill the mold evenly without overflowing).
- Main control board (less common)
- If freezer temperature is correct and the ice maker assembly has already been replaced, the main PCB could be failing to initiate automatic harvests.
Recommended diagnosis
- Verify freezer temperature is 0°F (-18°C) or colder.
- Observe the water fill during the test cycle:
- Full, even fill → suspect the ice maker assembly.
- Weak fill → inspect the fill tube, water pressure, and inlet valve.
- If temperature and fill are both good, replace the ice maker assembly before condemning the main PCB.
Based on your description
The fact that pressing the test button consistently forces a harvest and refill, but it never harvests by itself, strongly points to a failed ice maker assembly. The incomplete cubes suggest checking the water fill at the same time, but they do not explain why automatic harvest never starts.
