My whirlpool trash masher has not worked right in some time now. For longest time you had to turn key off manual at the end of the cycle or it would bang around. Now when you try to turn unit on it only hums but nothing happens.
Doug, sounds like yo have several problems, a bad direction switch, bad start switch, and possibly a motor switch. You may also want to remove the top of the unit and see if a plastic trash bag has wrapped itself around the drive shaft and drive nuts and jammed. Thats a pretty commmon problem.
