Ice tray broke at the post end so it was laying in ice bin. How do I put a new one back?
There seems to be a latch to undo the mechanism which turns the tray over once fill but can’ t figure out how to unlatch it. Am I approaching this correctly?
Somehow the post on the ice tray broken. Can’t figure out where clips are to take out front fan? assemble so the new tray can fit back in. Where or how do I find out?
Dr,
It’s best that you remove the assembly(at least it was for me,especially the mechanism tabs).
Once you’ve got it out and apart, check the support/housing assembly, for cracks and broken or loose components, especially the back support wall.
Here are the instructions for the support and ice maker repairs from the service manual,

Thank you. I guess I was too tall to see the screws under the top front part. Got it out. Now I have to order a new tray.
Dr,
Great job,
You did check the housing bracket for cracks and damaged or loose parts ?
This should be the part number for the ice tray,

Thank you again for the help. Mission accomplished and now have ice temporarily until I get a new tray.
I also need to replace the levers (comes with the assembly to be ordered) for the ice/water dispenser. Can’t figure out how to get to replace it since I see no screws. Does the face plate just pry off? Or do I get to the dispenser assembly another way?

DR,
You’ll need to order the complete assembly,
To access the dispenser assembly,
First, unplug the power cord, or turn power to the unit OFF.
(that way you don’t get hurt or short anything out).
You’ll need a flat blade screwdriver, or similar tool, and some sort of pad, so you don’t damage the door panel.
On the bottom of the face plate, you’ll find 2 slots molded in the bottom edge of the panel, with the tool, insert it into the slots, and pry out until it breaks loose, and carefully go around the remainder of the panel, and remove,
Be very careful with the wire harness for the display board and touch panel.
Once you’ve got the panel removed, the brackey and switch assembly is a “snap” plastic tab attachment process, so keep the scredriver handy.
Good Luck,
Thanks for the info. Will tackle it once I get the parts.
Regarding the other problem where I had to replace the ice tray. I put it in and got one cycle of ice cubes before it stopped filling up the tray with water. Would the line have frozen for having the ice turned off, or is there a senser that attaches to the tray have failed?
Any suggestions on how to diagnose the problem?

DR,
I wouldn’t think you’d have a frozen tank,or water line.
And I don’t think you have accidentally turned off the ice maker, you may want to go back into your use and care manual and double check, to make sure.
Of course the first suspicion would be the tray thermistor(sensor). they were starting to have problems with the wire harness a few years back.
Yes I had turned off the ice while assemble with out to install the tray. Turned on and 1 set of cubes made but no water after that. Is there a way of testing the tray sensor or bypassing it to see if things will work so I would know that the sensor is bad?
What is the function of the sensor?

DR,
No,
You can’t bbypass the tray sensor, it is a resistance circuit ( control board is looking for a specific ohms reading at a certain temperature) If you bypass it. you’ll get a false reading and the control will not function properly, if at all.
If you have a meter you can check the resistance readings:
Room Temperature(70 dgrs.) resistance should be 1093 ohms
Freezing Temperature(32 dgrs) resistance should be 3933 ohms
Frozen Temperature(0 dgrs) resistance should be 13290 ohms.
The function of the sensor, is to inform the control that the tray/ice has reached proper temperature, and it’s time to rotate and drop the cubes into the bin.
But before we go too far,
Check and make sure the shut off arm(lever) is in the fully dropped position, and not stuck somewhere in between.
Press and hold the black rubber button( test switch) for 2 or 3 seconds, and see if the ice maker runs a cycle.
We’ll keep an eye out for your response,
Sorry I did not get back sooner but could not do anything with problem for a couple days.
Pressed button on the ice tray mechanism and noticed that the tray turned, then twisted the ice out. In doing so it busted the repaired tray. Have to get new one. Wonder if it is twisting too much or just that the tray gets fatigued and eventually breaks off the round post. Any thoughts?
Noticed that only when I press the button does the ice get dumped and then water fills up the broken tray. Hard to determine if everything is working to recycle repeatedly for more ice since the cycle seems to work only when I press the button.
I need to order all the parts and hopefully everything else works unless you suspect that I need something more than the dispenser assembly and ice tray. Do you?

DR,
I haven’t run into that before.
I didn’t work on a whole lot of these units, but what I have here, and what I remember, and your post,
First thing, order another tray and tray sensor, also check and reduce the temperature in the freezer compartment(reccomended temperature is 3 to 5 degrees).
We know the control head is working properly, because it works in the test mode.
We know the housing and other components are OK, because it does attempt to release the cubes.
But, if that sensor has wrong resistance or the freezer temperature is too cold, I can imagine that tray getting too cold and brittle, and breaking, as you described.
Good Luck,
Put new tray in along with turning down the temp one notch. Ice cubes are formed but does not dump unless I press the test button. Waited several days while occasionally pressing button to dump ice tray. Only get more cubes this way. Would the sensor that sits in the tray cause the tray to not dump automatically?
Anything else that would cause this?

DR,
Now that you’ve reset the temperatures, and the tray does not break when it twists, and the ice maker operates in the test mode.
Yes, your tray sensor, is most likely the problem, it does control the ice maker rotation and dump procedure.
As I stated before, there were problems with that sensor a few years ago.
That’s the next logical, repair.
