How to replace door latch assembly on Maytag front loading machine

Not wanting to damage the finish how does one access the door latch mechinism inside the front cover. The hook assembly in the door is fine but the female receptical doesn’t latch the hook from the door when pushed to close. That make anysense?:confused:
