How to install new cooktop

Received new cooktop today. Tried to remove old cooktop by removing front two screws and noticed there were a lot of electronics attached to the old cooktop (1 year old). How do I go about installing this new cooktop considering everything attached to the old one? I had read all you do is remove front 2 screws and slide old one out and slide new one in.

Dear kempcarson,

The following applies to most common glass tops:

It is usually recommended a two person job but if your careful, read all the instructions before hand and take your time, one person should be able to do the job.

UNPLUG APPLIANCE BEFORE YOU START

  1. You will need to start by removing the few screws toward the front. These screws can be accessed by opening the oven door.

  2. When you lift the top most have a support as you would see on an older cars hood to hold the top up while you disconnect the wires from the elements. If there isnt you will need to find something to prop it up.

  3. On some ranges you will find a quick disconnect for all the elements. That way you dont have to remove them one by one. If yours doesnt be sure to mark them as you take them off.

  4. Once you have disconnected the harness to the elements carefully lay the top upside down on a soft cloth or towel on your kitchen counter.

  5. Place the new cooktop in the same manner and install the elements to the new top.

NOTE: CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO HANDLE THE ELEMENTS OR CERAMIC
