So one day when I turned on this washer, water poured out underneath. Turns out this only happens with the hot water. If I turn off the hot water spigot and fill with cold water only, no water coming out. It is happening inside, not on the outside. Is it the inlet valve, and if so, how do I get at it to replace it?

Based on your information and description,
Yes , you most likely have a solenoid in the water valve stuck open.
You’ll need to remove the cabinet , or lean it out at the top or slide it out a few inches to access the fill valve.
Here’s the basic Service Manual so you can perform the repair.

Thanks for getting back. So I figured out how to get it out - I thought of the solenoid as well - tested it outside of the washer housing and now (of course) it works fine. The hot water has been off for over a month, now the tub fills with no leaking on hot, cold or warm.
If it was the valve did the leaking take place around the solenoid connection to the valve? A mystery…

The most likely scenario is,
There was a piece of sediment (from the interior of the water pipe)stuck in the diaphram, which would not allow it to seat and seal when the valve would de activate when it reached the water level.
(a pretty common problem).
You may want to flush the water lines, and clean the hose washer screens and screens in the fill valve.
