How to do continuity check on AP3782822

The reason for the above post is, once I receive a new switch and install it, I cannot return it if it does not fix the problem. I’d like to do a continuity check on the old switch before I order the new switch.

With the dishwasher unplugged, disconnect at least one wire from the AP3782822 (Bosch 00424410) On/Off switch to isolate it before testing.

Set your multimeter to continuity or the lowest Ohms (Ω) setting, then test these terminal pairs:

  • Pins 1 & 2: Main switch contacts. They should change from OL (open) to 0–1 Ω (closed) when the button is pressed.
  • Pins 3 & 4: Second set of switch contacts. These should also change state when the button is pressed.
  • Pins 5 & 6: Reset/control contacts. On some versions, these only close momentarily as the button is operated, so they may not behave like a standard latching switch.

If any pair that should change state always reads OL or always shows continuity, the switch has failed and should be replaced.

If the terminal numbers aren’t visible, upload a clear photo of the back of the switch. Bosch usually molds the pin numbers into the plastic next to each terminal, and I can point out exactly which terminals to test.

Thank you for the instructions. We removed and tested the switch and it has failed per your directions. The switch was labeled 1, 1B, 2, 2B, 3, 3B. Which corrisponds to your 1, 2-3, 4-5, 6 above. 1&1B showed no continuity; 2&2B showed continuity; 3 and 3B showed continuity. I have ordered a new switch.

Well, that didn’t work. I received the on/off switch today. I did the same continuity test on both old and new switches and they respond exactly the same. The dishwasher still does not come on. Same symptoms. When I turn it on:

- The on/offswitch does not light up.  
- The setting switches all light up and I can change between settings.  All setting (Power Scrub, Normal, etc) show 43 minutes.  The Quick Wash shows 24 minutes.
- The Delay/Start switch does not have a red light on
- The Delay/Start switch, when pressed and held, does not change the time to 1Hr or 2Hr, et. for the delay time.
- The dishwasher does not come on when I close the door.
- When I close the door, the latch does click, however, I do not know how to test that switch.

What is next for testing and determining what is wrong?

I really like this dishwasher and would like to get it repaired.  

Check the Door Latch

Even if the door seems to latch normally, the control must see the door switch close before it will start.

With power disconnected:

  1. Remove the inner door panel.
  2. Locate the door latch assembly.
  3. Disconnect the latch wiring harness.
  4. Using a multimeter on continuity (Ω), test the latch switches.
  • Door open: switches should be open (OL)
  • Door latched: switches should read 0–1 Ω

If either switch does not change state, replace the door latch assembly.


Step 3: Test the Start Button

Since the Start/Delay light never comes on, verify the Start button is actually working.

With the ribbon cable disconnected from the control board:

  • Press the Start button while checking continuity across its corresponding contacts.

The button should change from open to 0 Ω when pressed.

If it never changes, the control panel/user interface has failed.


Step 4: Inspect the Ribbon Cable

Remove the ribbon cable from the electronic control.

Look for:

  • Corrosion
  • Burn marks
  • Bent pins
  • Moisture damage

Reseat the ribbon cable securely and test again.


Step 5: Inspect the Main Control Board

Remove the control board cover and inspect for:

  • Burned components
  • Darkened solder joints
  • Water damage
  • Loose connectors

If everything looks normal, continue with electrical testing.


Step 6: Verify Incoming Voltage

Extreme care should always be taken when testing with live voltage. Electric shock can cause serious injury or death. If you are uncomfortable working around live voltage, do not perform these tests.

With the dishwasher powered on:

  • Verify approximately 120 VAC is reaching the control board input.

If 120 VAC is missing, troubleshoot the house wiring, junction box, or power cord.

If 120 VAC is present, the control is receiving proper power.


Most Likely Causes (in order)

  1. Failed door latch/switch assembly (most common)
  2. Failed user interface/control panel (Start button or LED circuit)
  3. Main electronic control board (less common)

Because the cycle selection buttons still work, the main control is at least partially functioning. The failure of both the On/Off indicator LED and the Start/Delay function, combined with the dishwasher never recognizing the door close to begin a cycle, makes the door latch assembly and the user interface the two components I’d investigate before replacing the main control board.

What are the part numbers for the door latch and the Intreface Board?

If the latch is not working, would the on/off switch at least show ON when the door is open. And it seems I should be able to set the delay start.

With the door switch not showing closed it wouldn’t allow the system to send power

This is a dishwasher with the buttons on the top. You cannot see any buttons or lights when you close the door. How can I tell if the door switch shows closed or not?

Another hint that may help diagnose, when the dishwasher stopped working, it was in a cycle and running. It showed 6 minutes left when I opened the door but would not restart.

Also, this diswasher does not have a ribbon cable. It has individual cables.

That what you said about opening it during a cycle and it never worked after makes me wonder if there isa logic fault on the board hanging it up

I don’t know if I opened it before it finished or if it stopped on its own.

How do you clear a ‘Logic Fault’

If the hard reset of powering it down for 10 minutes doesn’t reset it then the board is bad

Well, the replaced door latch did not solve the problem. Same symptoms as listed above.

You listed 3 possible problems.

  1. Replace the Door Latch: Failed
  2. Replace the Latch Switch: Failed
  3. I am now looking at replacing the Control Board at over $300 which I cannot return if it does not fix the problem and I have installed it.

So I would like to be really sure that this is what I need. Please confirm that the next step is to replace the Control board, part number “Bosch 00499497 Dishwasher aControl Module; Genuine OEM Part”.

I cannot say with 100% certainty that it’s the board since I’m not there to do the diagnosis. My recommendation at this point is to have a qualified tech check it before you buy the board

Dishwasher Has Power but Won’t Start

3. Electrical Panel: Check your home’s electrical panel for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses that might affect the dishwasher’s operation.
