Check the Door Latch
Even if the door seems to latch normally, the control must see the door switch close before it will start.
With power disconnected:
- Remove the inner door panel.
- Locate the door latch assembly.
- Disconnect the latch wiring harness.
- Using a multimeter on continuity (Ω), test the latch switches.
- Door open: switches should be open (OL)
- Door latched: switches should read 0–1 Ω
If either switch does not change state, replace the door latch assembly.
Step 3: Test the Start Button
Since the Start/Delay light never comes on, verify the Start button is actually working.
With the ribbon cable disconnected from the control board:
- Press the Start button while checking continuity across its corresponding contacts.
The button should change from open to 0 Ω when pressed.
If it never changes, the control panel/user interface has failed.
Step 4: Inspect the Ribbon Cable
Remove the ribbon cable from the electronic control.
Look for:
- Corrosion
- Burn marks
- Bent pins
- Moisture damage
Reseat the ribbon cable securely and test again.
Step 5: Inspect the Main Control Board
Remove the control board cover and inspect for:
- Burned components
- Darkened solder joints
- Water damage
- Loose connectors
If everything looks normal, continue with electrical testing.
Step 6: Verify Incoming Voltage
Live Power Warning
Extreme care should always be taken when testing with live voltage. Electric shock can cause serious injury or death. If you are uncomfortable working around live voltage, do not perform these tests.

With the dishwasher powered on:
- Verify approximately 120 VAC is reaching the control board input.
If 120 VAC is missing, troubleshoot the house wiring, junction box, or power cord.
If 120 VAC is present, the control is receiving proper power.
Most Likely Causes (in order)
- Failed door latch/switch assembly (most common)
- Failed user interface/control panel (Start button or LED circuit)
- Main electronic control board (less common)
Because the cycle selection buttons still work, the main control is at least partially functioning. The failure of both the On/Off indicator LED and the Start/Delay function, combined with the dishwasher never recognizing the door close to begin a cycle, makes the door latch assembly and the user interface the two components I’d investigate before replacing the main control board.
