How to access the hidden bake element

Brand: Maytag
Model Number:mer6600fz
Main Symptom: smoking
What happens & when: I need to access the hidden bake element of my range and you can’t do it from the oven or the back. Any ideas?

With the warmer drawer removed and the power supply turned off at the breaker, there should be two tabs at the front when looking up under where the warmer drawer sits. The metal tray should push out of those tabs and then drop down, allowing the bake element to be replaced.

Thanks WilliamM for the reply.

Maytag model # MER6600FZ2

This is a 30 inch free standing range and doesn’t have a warming tray but it does have a storage bin under the oven cavity. Looking at the Matag schematic part # 211299263 it shows two stacked trays under the oven cavity that contain the bake element. I just don’t see a obvious way to access the bake element. Otherwise does one have to completely remove the back from the chassis to get to the bake element? I read somewhere on some models the method of accessing the element was to remove one or other of the side panels. Thanks for your help and do you have any further guidance?

Of the two trays that you are referencing, the bottom most one has a lip towards the front that inserts into locking tabs. The lip would need to be pushed out of the tabs so that the front of the tray can drop down. This will let the bake element to be accessed for replacement. To see and access the lip, the warmer/storage drawer would need to be removed from the appliance.

Thanks WilliamM

Yep you got it exactly right. I was totally stumped! I will check back for parts if needed.
