How do I run diagnostic mode?

coils iced up
heating element tests 27.8 ohms
I replaced the defrost thermostat.
Maybe the diagnostic mode would give me another clue!
How do I run it?

Thanks for the tech sheet link. I ran the diagnostic sequence and it looks like everything checks OK even though the coils still ice up. I disconnected the defrost heating element and wired it direct to line voltage. The coils defrosted in about ten minutes. The element was obviously hot but did not glow. Should it? Any suggestions about what I should check next?

When you say everything checked out, did the defrost heater heat up in step 6 of the diagnostics?

I do not know but since the coils defrosted in 10 minutes I would say it is OK as the default time for a programmed defrost cycle is 25 minutes.
Also the heater resistance looks OK.
One thing to note is that 20 of this 25 minutes is in a used mode.

I would double check that the defrost thermostat is 0 ohms when frozen.
You could also check from pin 5 to pin 3 at plug P1 on the board. You should see the heater resistance if the defrost thermostat is closed.
If you do then odds are that the control board needs replacing.

Thank you for your help! Your last suggestion helped me find the problem.
When I lowered the panel to check the resistance between pins 3 and 5, I found that the connector was not fully seated. Once I plugged it in completely everything started working. Very basic but a real headache to find!
