My Gibson dryer model # GGF331As2 is clunking and the drum seems to be loose from its bearing. How do I open the covers to begin inspection.
Thanks
Elmo
So I waited around for a response while I adjusted the primary chain on my Harley. (Instructions available on request) With no response online (apparently to much of a noob question) I forged ahead. With experience in a broad field of technologies from gas and steam turbines to hydraulics and power generation as well as doing all my own maintenance on a ridiculous personal fleet (Harley, BMW, Kawasaki,Porsche, Ford, Chevy,Subaru and Suzuki) I plunged in.
Using a lightweight pry-bar wrapped with cotton rag I pried the top cover up at the front releasing two spring type prongs alowing the top cover to stand vertically. I then unplugged the front control cluster (after unplugging the A.C.) and snipped a restraining zip tie. Two screws in the flange near the top of the front panel once removed allowed the front panel to be rocked forward, disengaging from the drum and spring clips at the flange. Then the front panel can be set aside. There On the felt seal/bearing I found the culprit. A single wood screw had become wedged and was generating a clunk every 180 degrees of rotation when the nylon bearing surface passed over.
As an added bonus my lovely spouse recalled having used this type of screw to build a garden gate, whew!
Okay forum, one more shot at being worth my effort. How do I determine the wear limits of this felt bearing and what are recommended procedures for replacement.
