How do I Clean Pump Filter

How can I clean the pump filter on my Maytag MDBTT60AWW Dishwasher? :confused:

It does not appear that the filter will pop off of the larger assembly to be able to clean it. It looks very dirty on the inside, but I would prefer not to have to pay ~$65 for the whole filter assembly if there is a way to clean it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
