My washer suddenly started filling with hot water during cold wash/cold rinse. No cold water enters the tub at all. If I set the water temp to warm wash, both hot and cold water enter the tub as expected. Also, no matter what water temp is set the water (hot or cold) only flows for about a minute before shutting off completely and the machine freezes and won’t go into agitate mode (the tub is nearly empty of water anyway). I use a garden hose to fill the tub and restart the wash mode. When the wash is done, the tub drains but doesn’t refill and the washer doesn’t do anything. So, again I fill the tub with a garden hose, start the wash cycle to rinse the load and then when the machine stops after draining (and doesn’t refill) I set the cycle to spin. I do not know how to test the temperature switch. It has 7 wires. Also, it seems that the temperature switch may be causing the water level switch to “believe” that the water level has been met even though there is hardly any water in the tub so that the water shuts off and the tub doesn’t fill. At least that is my theory. Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
I don’t think the water level switch or the water temp switch is the problem here.
These switches both work through the timer, and given the symptoms I think the timer is the issue. Try changing it out and see if that doesn’t fix things.
Your workaround was clever, nice going.
