Hot/cold water supply

Brand:whirlpool
Model Number:ghw9400pw2
Main Symptom: hot supply when call for cold, cold supply when call for hot
What happens & when: hot water inlet valve opens when cold wash selected: cold water inlet valve opens when hot wash selected. Same for rinse cycles. Is this a temperature sensor problem or a control panel problem? Would my machine run if I just disconnected the temperature sensor connection?

Error Code (if any): no code on this 15-20 year old machine
Parts or tests already tried: verified all lines are connected to correct H/C inlet

It’ll probably give you an error if you try disconnecting the thermistor. I’d suspect the control board WP8182697 but it is worth testing that thermistor WPW10467289.

The thermistor should read about 10kΩ at room temp. I will note that the thermistor on this model is installed a little differently than in the video attached to the part, instead of being installed directly to the tub it is on the heating element assembly WPW10426377 which has it’s own video. The thermistor is still individually serviceable and the installation of the thermistor onto the heater assembly is basically the same, but I figured I’d let you know. The heater assembly comes with the thermistor if you decide to go that route.

Thank you for your time. It did give me an F05 error when I disconnected it. Next step is to check the sensor, but I think you are probably correct, it is the control board. thank you
